Strawberry Ricotta Puff Pastry Appetizers | Easy Elegant Party Appetizer Recipe

  • July 5, 2025

An Easy, Elegant Appetizer for Brunch, Parties, and Holiday Gatherings

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 10–12 minutes
Total Time: 25–30 minutes
Servings: 18 pastries

Why You’ll Love This Strawberry Ricotta Appetizer

Looking for a simple appetizer that’s both beautiful and delicious? These Strawberry Ricotta Puff Pastry Appetizers combine flaky, buttery puff pastry with creamy ricotta cheese and sweet, juicy strawberries for an elegant bite that’s perfect for brunch, bridal showers, holiday entertaining, or summer gatherings.

With just a handful of ingredients, this recipe comes together quickly and looks like it came straight from a bakery. The best part? It’s easy to customize with your favorite seasonal fruit such as blueberries, peaches, raspberries, or blackberries.

Ingredients

  • 2 sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 4 tablespoons ricotta cheese
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Optional Garnishes

  • Powdered sugar
  • Fresh mint leaves
  • Honey drizzle
  • Lemon zest
  • Balsamic glaze

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Filling

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a small bowl, combine the ricotta cheese and sugar. Stir until smooth and creamy.

Step 2: Cut the Puff Pastry

Lightly flour your work surface and gently roll out each sheet of puff pastry.

Cut each sheet into three strips, then cut each strip into three squares, creating nine squares per sheet (18 squares total).

Step 3: Assemble the Pastries

Spread about one teaspoon of the ricotta mixture in the center of each pastry square.

Arrange several slices of fresh strawberries on top of the ricotta.

Bring two opposite corners of each square together and gently overlap them to create a small pastry packet. Pinch lightly to help seal.

Step 4: Brush and Bake

Place the pastries on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Brush each pastry with the beaten egg for a beautiful golden finish.

Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the puff pastry is puffed and golden brown.

Allow to cool for a few minutes before serving.

Recipe Tips

  • Keep the puff pastry cold until you’re ready to use it for the flakiest texture.
  • Avoid overfilling the pastries to prevent the filling from spilling out during baking.
  • For extra sweetness, dust with powdered sugar just before serving.
  • Serve warm or at room temperature.

Delicious Variations

This versatile recipe works beautifully with many fruits:

  • Blueberries for a classic summer appetizer
  • Fresh peach slices for late summer gatherings
  • Raspberries for a slightly tart flavor
  • Blackberries for an elegant dessert-style appetizer
  • Mixed berries for colorful presentation

Serving Suggestions

Pair these pastries with:

  • Fresh fruit platters
  • Charcuterie boards
  • Sparkling lemonade
  • Coffee or tea
  • Brunch buffets
  • Holiday appetizer spreads

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make these ahead of time?

Yes. Assemble the pastries several hours ahead and refrigerate until ready to bake.

Can I freeze them?

Yes. Freeze the assembled, unbaked pastries on a baking sheet. Once frozen, transfer them to a freezer-safe bag and bake directly from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the baking time.

What other cheeses can I use?

Mascarpone or cream cheese can be substituted for ricotta, although ricotta provides a lighter, creamier texture.
