Add a Little Spice to Your Life
Pakistani cuisine recognizes the importance and characteristics of spices. A combination of different spices is called the masala, which can vary from region to region. The important thing to remember when cooking Pakistani food, is that there are some basic spices which are used in most dishes such as garlic, ginger, garam masala (which is a combination of five different spices), chili powder, turmeric, coriander and cumin. Cooking is an art and it is important to know the spices as separate ingredients and what they taste like on their own. Once you know that, then it is quite simple to make changes to match your mood and taste buds by adding less or more of each spice. Just remember, that spices are not supposed to takeover the taste of the dish but rather compliment and enhance the flavor. I love to cook but I am not a big fan of spending hours and hours in the kitchen, most of my recipes are easy to follow. With the right spices, you can very quickly and simply turn a plain meal into a delight.
